The Belt Parkway has either not-so-bad days or absolutely-awful-miserable days, and requires you to either take Sunrise Highway or Southern State Parkway. Given the time of year, we’d expect that South Shore beach traffic will be a factor. Fortunately everyone hates North Shore beaches, so you shouldn’t have many problems if you can take the Northern State Parkway instead. I would recommend avoiding longer stretches of the Long Island Expressway and transferring to the Northern State if able, though it should not be anywhere as bad as the South Shore.
Parking
Valet parking will be available free-of-charge. There is also a self-parking lot immediately next to the venue.

via Boat
The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson ferry is 5.5 miles away from the Three Village Inn. There is a train station 1.3 miles (uphill) from Port Jefferson, which then can be ridden one stop to the Stony Brook station, which is itself 1.2 miles away.
The ferry takes both pedestrians as well as vehicles. I’ve taken it at least a half-dozen times, and it provides a much more enjoyable experience than sitting in traffic. When considering Throgs Neck/Whitestone Bridge tolls, as well as gas prices, it may be comparatively cost-effective (particularly with carpools). via Train
The Stony Brook Train Station (LIRR) is 1.2 miles away from the Venue. Trains are available on the Huntington line. I’ve traveled dozens of times via Train, including taking the Subway to Jamaica/Woodside first as well as the LIRR directly out of Penn Station with a transfer at Huntington. Taking a Metro North train into Grand Central and walking to Penn, or taking the subway (7 train) to Woodside from Grand Central are decent options. The Amtrak Northeast Regional provides service to Penn Station after which an LIRR connection would work from there, with the aforementioned transfer at Huntington.
via Plane
Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) is approximately 30 minutes away. Nonstop direct flights are available from Boston, Tampa, Orlando, Charlotte, and more. You may find this the most convenient if traveling from out-of-state, as it will avoid all NYC-related traffic coming from one of the major airports. It may be worth a short layover of less than two hours to catch a connecting flight into ISP.
LaGuardia (LGA) is going to be a lot easier to get out of, results in less travel-time to Stony Brook, and is a much better-run experience all-around now that the renovations have been completed. You may also want to consider Westchester County (HPN), though this would result in ~30-40 minutes of additional travel time compared to LGA or JFK. We would not recommend flying into Newark (EWR).
